Typhoon Morakot

After forming as a tropical depression over the Pacific Ocean about 1,000 km east of the Philippines on August 2nd, Typhoon Morakot built in power and moved quickly west. Over the past several days, the storm has passed over the Philippines, Taiwan and Mainland China, causing hundreds of millions of dollars in damage due to high winds, flooding and mudslides. Southeast China evacuated nearly 1 million people ahead of the storm, after Morakot broke many records in Taiwan, dumping a total of 2.5 meters (100 inches) of rain on the island. At least 40 people are known to have died so far, but hundreds remain missing - many from one village in Taiwan, reportedly engulfed by a mudslide during the storm. (36 photos total)

President Ma is a true piece of crap. He's most likely the worst president alive in Taiwan. I dont know why so many blind people elected him to be the president when he did not achieve anything spectacular even as a taipei mayor. Nothing good has happened ever since he became the president; economy got worse, MRT is f-ing screwed up every single day, and now after the attack of typhoon Morakot, he rejected foreign help. Sure we do have a lot of troops and rescue teams in Taiwan, but it's because of his horrible leadership and incapability altogether with his cold heart for the southern Taiwanese that's why the rescue is delayed. If in any way he's compassionate with how helpless and desperate those people feel, the situation would be much better by now and foreign countries would not have tried to jump in to help. I hope typhoon Morakot serves as a wake-up call for those who still believe in him. Please ask yourself a simple question: isnt it more important in getting immediate help and save more lifes than rejecting it and having more of Taiwanese people die?

PLS SOS Taiwan!
Out government do nothing..

According to CNN news "Typhoon Morakot dumped three meters of rain on southern and central parts of the island. By Wednesday night, Taiwan's National Disaster Prevention and Protection Commission confirmed 103 dead and 61 missing."
Actually, till now, already 108 dead and probably hundred missing instead of 61. And still thousands losing connection.

Morakot brought death and huge disaster to Taiwan people, but KMT government give us another hopelessness.

There're still many unknow villages probably buried but till now, KMT government has not mobilized enough army or manpower to help to relieve the victims of a disaster.
The cold-blooded rain keeps coming every evening, and our hope is dieing out. The mudflows and landslides may happen again any time, but thousands of people still stuck in disaster area.

In city area, Kaohsiung area already bear 4-days water supply suspending. And so does Tainan area. The temperature is getting higher and higher, disease may explode anytime.

We hope the internation mass media can force KMT government to speed up the relieve and the rebuilding.

And we thank for all the blessing from other countries and all the mass media.

Taiwan appreciates but does NOT yet need international help. The Taiwanese people are donating money and human labor in helping themselves. The Taiwanese are good and smart and they can do a great job standing up and learning lessons from the catastrophe. The urgency and intensity of the catastrophe has not reached the level of needing international help, as put by the government. The Taiwanese people need to learn how to trust and follow their leadership, stop being so political and dramatic!

Please! Please save Taiwan! Many villages in Southern Taiwan are still waiting for rescue while our president Ma is still hesitating, even refusing foreign help provided by rescue teams for reasons we don't understand. Please let more rescue teams know that we REALLY, REALLY need help! We hear so much SOS from the villages in the mountains but couldn't do anything. They have no food, no water, no electricity, all transportation shut down, and phones can't work so there's no communication for already 6 days!!! The rescue teams in Taiwan are getting tired, and we need more help.

Please ask more helicopters and rescue teams to come and save us! Those who are trapped might not be able to hold on for any longer! Thank you so much!

Guys, if you read the description under each photo carefully you will know that the photos are shooted from many places, not just Taiwan. The author of the photos have descriptions on the time and places for each one taken. The point is, Taiwan is a place we all love, and we really should do somehting to help whether you are in the disaster or not. The author of the photos is trying to remind us wherever the photos are taken the disaster happend to those is under unbearable pain. Irregardless of the government's ability, it's time that we contribute our share and help each other out!! Whether it be money, in person, or sympathy! Just don't be ashamed of anything that you can put in to help!!

I think someone is multi-posting here big time. China is helping Taiwan, and the people of Taiwan needs all the help it can get. Last years' terrible earth quake in Sichuan province was even more horrible than this, and the people of Taiwan gave generously to help their ethnic brothers and sisters on the mainland. Now is the time to return the helping hand. So lets keep stupid politics out of it...we are not just Chinese, we are all human beings.

All that I know about Taiwan I learned from my associate there, who is a very intelligent, honorable and creative developer of software named Willis. He forwarded me these photos and link.
I am a small American businessman working with a small company in Taiwan managed by Willis and his wife.

My heart breaks for the Taiwanese people in this time of natural disaster.
I see the pain, the suffering, the loss on the faces of those affected by the typhoon.
I also see the courage, the compassion and the love on the faces of those helping their unfortunate countrymen.

We are separated by 12 time zones, many thousands of miles, social, political and cultural differences, but still in some ways we are all the same; we want to provide a good home for our children, we want to spend time with those we love and we want our children to grow up in a better world than that which we grew up in.

I have passed on these photos and links to many other business we work with in the hopes many more in the business world will offer as much business opportunity as we can from here in the form of new business, new orders, new opportunities to work with Taiwan businesses and business owners.
Once the water recedes and the cleanup work is over the next job will be to rebuild the economy and employ as many as possible so they can earn money to rebuild their homes and lives for heir families and their futures for their children.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for the good people of Taiwan.

Foreign rescue teams and agencies please insist on entering the country and joining in the search and rescue efforts that have been ongoing since 8/8. Our already meagre resources have not been well utilized and the operations are badly orchestrated. Regardless of what the Executive Yuan and our President says, we need your immediate and kindly assistance in recovering many lost in the flood and those that might have survived but have no communication with the outside world.

Please send more rescuers to Taiwan!! Taiwan needs your help!!
Our president Ma Ying-Jou said to CNN that those residents failed to heed
government's warning about typhoon. But I think these words are just his
excuses to be irreponsible! 7 days had passed since those tradies happened,
but the Ma administration failed to act quickly enough to save those who could have been rescued! Many video clips have shown that some people standing on
the roof after being hit by the typhoon are gone now!! It's a consequence of our
government's poor reacting system to disaster! Moreover, our president even refuse foreign aids to come in to save more people. So many days had passed, as we've seen on TV news, there are still lots of people either missing or waiting for food and water!!! We are feared that more people will die!!!
If you've seen this, please tell your government that Taiwan needs your help!!
We are not that "OK" as our president said to foreign media!!

It is not clear article for what MSN really want to only encourage us or they will raise funds to help for the disaster. especially in this very moment. I still not figure out what the hell they was trying to tell us!! so rumors came up that "everyone put (#) on MSN then they will raise fund", so most of people of course did. But now they declare that they only encourage people, and that's it.

I am a Taiwanese in Taipei, I could tell the reason why KMT's government in Taiwan refused international help offers especially from US martial forces. Because President Ma is afraid of China, Chinese always see Taiwan as part of their land, they just wouldn't tolerate any US Amy landed in Taiwan, Ma knows that, he treat himself as a local governor of China, He doesn't dare to have any movement to provoke Chinese nerve.

Help! Somebody help! Help this helpless land and those innocent people!!

Thousands of people become victims of the typhoon and hundreds of people died and were buried in landslide mud.
Millions of people are going to be innocent victims due to the central government's slow action. Six days passed already. The central government and the one on post cares their own reputation and public image more than lifes of its people.

Poor Taiwanese in poor southern Taiwan. God bless us all.

Taiwan government has already mobilized, the causes that many people says they need help is most people's motion! However, if foreign goverments' help flood into Taiwan but without coordination, sometime it 'll worsen the situation. Are people forget the lesson of China's earhquake?

Today Ma accepted the help of other countries FINALLY. Those poor people have been waiting for 6 days and they must be very hungry and hopeless. I cannot figure out why he refused the help of other countries at first time, and he even didn't announce the order of emergency to let soldiers help at first time. I believe there must be many people with doubts like what I said. Everyone should know that saving the lives of people in a disaster has a limited time; timing is extremely important for those people. God bless Taiwan! A student in Taiwan

As a foreigner married into a Taiwanese family and resident on the island 8 years now, I think I can say that to any western eyes the actions of the Ma government seem pointedly inadequate. He reminds me of Bush after Katrina in New Orleans. It's amazing to think that any KMT voters (including my in-laws) will vote him in again in 3 years time. Japan, USA and EU readers, please send all the help you can via the Red Cross. This tradegy is bigger than Ma's sense of national pride.

When one reporter of CNN asked him a question about the typhoon, Ma answered that those people caused the severe death because they didn't evecuate from their houses. This is the president of Taiwan. Poor Taiwanese.
